May 25th, 2012- The best day of my life and this is why:
My friend Lexi and I went from Long Island to Pennsylvania to see my favorite band Boys Like Girls at the Mayfair Festival in Allentown.
We arrived at around twelve and walked straight to the Cabaret stage and sat down where we weren’t even supposed to be, oops. Eventually we got kicked out, but we watched the Boys Like Girls crew set up the microphones and drum kit.
When we got kicked out, we went and sat in wet seats and tables near the stage though for when Boys Like Girls arrived.
After a little while, they finally got there with their suitcases and dufflebags and Morgan got his stuff stuck in the grass and I laughed.
When they put their stuff in the RV behind the stage, Paul came over the tables and talked with us. I complained to him about his sunglassed because I hate when people wear really dark sunglass and I cant see their eyes.
And he was like “yeah, these sunglasses are really dark.” But then we finally could see his eyes and we were like after “OH! We can see your eyes now!” and he was like “I’ve been caught after all these years.” and Lexi was like “What staring at people?” And he just laughed and smiled.
And then he went and talked to other people at other tables and all of sudden we heard him go “I just got a text message from Martin saying how he’s stuck in the RV and to go help him get out.” And well, Paul didn’t go help Martin get out.
Eventually though, he said that he had to go save him.
Lexi and I then got up to stand by the tent where they we’re about to do soundcheck and we danced obnoxiously and all they did was stare at us and laugh.
After soundcheck, Martin came out to take pictures with everyone. Lexi and I went up to him to take pictures and gets hugs as well, obviously.
When I asked for a hugging photo he was like “I’d love that.” When we were done, we walked to the side and just watched everyone else take photos.
One girl then asked Martin for a guitar pick, which he had in his pocket. We approached Martin again, and Lexi just turned and smiled at him and he was like “Did your photo come out bad? Do you need to retake it?”
We told him no, and that we just wanted guitar picks. And he took a handful out of his pocket and told us to take as many as we wanted because he wanted to get rid of them and so we did. And Lexi asked him if he enjoyed our dancing and he said that he did and that it was a confidence boost about the new songs.
Morgan came out then and wanted to take a video of all of us with Martin and Martin was saying how this was the cheesiest thing ever.
After the video, we went over to Morgan and he gave Lexi a high five and he went to give me one and I wouldn’t let him and told him I wanted a hug instead. And so we hugged.
Then he asked what there was to do around the festival and we didn’t know and told him that we weren’t from around here.
And two girls that we met there told him that they were selling candles shaped like food.
Someone said feildtrip time and all four of us and Morgan walked over to that tent.
Morgan was very amused, especially by the chocolate covered strawberry candles and he was saying how he wanted to buy them for his mom.
But he againsted it and that he wanted to clean himself up and as we walked to another tent he was asking if we had boyfriends. Lexi asked him if he was looking for a girlfriend and the rest of us laughed and told him that we were forever alone. And he told us that we weren’t going to be forever alone and that no one wanted to be alone. So we walked over to another tent where they were selling old fashion organic soap.
He bought one of the shaving kits that was from around the 1940’s, and we all voted that he buy the black one because he was in a dilema of the blue one or the black one.
As he was paying, he wanted to take a photo of us and then he said how he wanted to be in it too. So he took the photo and said he was going to tweet it.
He then went to go find a bathroom with running water because he didn’t want to use a portopotty.
All four of us then went back to the candle tent and we bought Morgan the chocolate covered strawberry candles for him to give to his mom.
And we signed the bag, and then walked back.
We went to walk over the Paul and John who were now out and taking pictures and talking to people and Morgan came back just a couple of minutes later, so we went and gave him the bag.
And he told us that he was going to tweet a picture of his mom with the candles when he gave them to her.
Then we all walked over to Paul and John and they were asking us what there was to do around the festival and we told them how we just showed Morgan candles shaped like food and shaving kits.
And Paul may or may not of been way too excited about those things.
So we went on another field trip and sadly Paul and John made Morgan stay behind and meet fans even though he wanted to come with us again.
We walked over the candles and enthused by the smell and look of the candles, especially the one that smelled and looked like beer.
Eventually John wanted to see the soap, so I walked over with him to the soap by ourselves and I asked him if we were annoying them and he was saying how it was perfectly fine and that we were their personal chauffeurs.
Then we walked back to the candles where I saw Lexi had bought Paul a rose shaped candle and a pink lemonade cup candle.
They wanted to see the rest of the festival, so we walked down the path of a bunch of tents.
Eventually we were near a tent that was selling beef sticks and we saw Martin buying food with the crew. And it was ironic because Martin was wearing a jersey that said BEEF on the back of it.
Somehow someway, we got on the topic of toothpics and Martin offered us his flavored toothpics and he told us how life changing they were. We all took one and my god, they are life changing.
I will never look at a normal toothpic the same way.
Martin then made fun of Paul saying “Why the hell are you carrying around a rose? I would never be seen carrying around a rose unless it was for a lady and even then I’d feel awkward about it.” and Paul tried to blame it on Lexi and was saying how she bought it for him.
And Lexi explained how he picked it out though….
Martin joined our group and we continued to walk through the festival. And he was making fun of Paul and John for liking the festival.
Martin seemed to be unenthused with all of us and would either walk ahead or stay behind the group and not talk to any of us.
Everyone was getting stopped by more fans to take pictures with Martin.
We kept walking until it started raining and everyone decided it was a good idea to walk back, on the way back Lexi and Marin got distracted by little kids doing a play.
And I continued with Paul, John, and the two girls.
During the walking back though, we kept switching sides of the road to where it was raining or where it wasnt… even though it was raining equally on both sides of the path.
HOWEVER LEXI’S STORY WITH MARTIN:
There was another girl who was trying to meet Martin but wouldn’t talk and Lexi told her how she was feeling awkward but didn’t want to walk back alone or leave him alone.
And Martin turned and put his arm around her and told her that they’d walk back together.
Martin then started saying how the people who played dungeons and dragons grow up to write plays for little kids and then he was saying how crazy it is and that only kids are able to understand it.
And how he couldn’t wait to be a dad and do the whole barbeque and baseball thing with his kid(s).
He then asked Lexi if she was excited for the show and then she told him how she was here with the girl with the gray shirt and he said “Oh! The one in the shorts!”
And Lexi told him how Boys Like Girls was my favorite band and how I’ve been to a ton of their shows and how at bamboozle the weekend before I started crying when they came on stage.
Martin then said how he reconginzed me but didn’t want to say anything and Lexi then said “yup, that’s Kelly.”
And Martin was saying how when they got back he had to give me a hug. Martin was saying how he likes when fans interact with him because he knows it’s something that they’re proud of and it makes him feel good about what he does.
He was then saying how it felt right to take the break when he did because they wanted to release Heart Heart Heartbreak as a single but radio stations wanted to take out the guitars and make it a really pop song and he said how he wasn’t going to change what he loves to do and thats why they scrapped an entire album and he was happy to be back and making something that he actually likes.
And then Martin and Lexi were back by the tent and Martin was saying how he wanted to come give me a hug but there was too many people over there and that it’d just take too long and it was raining and that for Lexi and I to find him later.
Then they hugged and he ran to the RV and Lexi came to me and explained everything that happened.
Then we were allowed into the tent and an old lady tried to jack my seat in the front row even though we didn’t even use the seats.
We danced to the DJ twice, to Chiddy Bang, and to Chris Rene and FINALLY Boys Like Girls came on.
They played multiple songs and they all made eye contact with me except for Martin until the second to last song which was a new song that repeats “It’s good to see you again.”
And when he sang those lyrics, he made eye contact with me and I seriously have never seen him smile so big ever and get so happy. Lexi then screamed at me and was like “I SAW THAT.”
Then the last song was Love Drunk and the show was sadly over.
We walked outside to meet them again and we watched them take pictures with other fans. We witnessed Martin hold a little girl whose birthday it was and Lexi told him to not drop her and he was like “I’m trying!”
We talked to Paul and he looked at me and I yelled at him to not look at me and he took a picture with fans and he was like “Hey girls, nice to see you again.”
And he hugged us and we let him continue to meet the other fans. And a little dora the explorer bracelet attacked my foot so I picked it up and put it on me. Then we walked over to Martin where he smiled at us and asked us how we enjoyed the show and if the new songs sounded good, and we told him that they sounds great. (even though we already heard them at bamboozle)
Lexi then asked him for a hug and he gave her a hug and I then I got my hug and he was like “It was good to see you again honey.”
Then we walked over to John where he only said hi again and then we walked over to Morgan and I asked him if he liked my bracelet and he took it off and tried to put it on his arm and he was complaing how it didn’t fit him. Lexi suggested that he make it an earring, so he put it on his ear and he tried to walk away with it on but I yelled at him that he couldn’t walk away with it on.
So we gave him goodbye hugs and then we walked over to John where I yelled at him that we needed to take terrible photos and he was like “What do you mean terrible photos?!”
And we explained how we didn’t take pictures earlier and now we look like shit. So we took photos and I showed him and he was like “see you look great! I look terrible and look way too happy!”
And then he started making fun of his smile and saying how he actually smiled. The Lexi hugged him and then I did and he went to give me a one armed hug and I yelled at him that he has two arms and then he capped his marker and hugged me with two arms and was yelling at me to squeeze tighter and I did and he yelled at me again to squeeze tighter and higher up to crack his back.
which I unsuccessfully did because I didn’t know how to crack his back but in the proccess he cracked my neck.
After that we went over to Paul and he was like “what do you guys want now?” while laughing and we told him that we needed goodbye hugs and he was like “Aw, you’re leaving?” and we explained hwo the security guards were kicking us out.
So Lexi hugged him first and then I hugged him and made him use two arms again and I wouldn’t let go of him. And he was like “YOU’VE DONE THIS BEFORE. YOU DON’T DETATCH.”
Eventually, I unfortunatly let go and we walked over to Martin to give him one last hug as well and Lexi hugged him and she was suppose to be the last person he hugged but he saw me standing behind her and put his arm out and was like “Come here.”
I hugged him and he was like “it was good to see you again sweetie.”
Then we walked over to Morgan and said our goodbyes to him, and hugged him again and Lexi was telling him to accept our love for another hug and then he asked me if I was not going to let go.
And we finally said goodbye and reluctantly left.
